Olena Lytvynenko, Head of EU Program “Local Democracy Building and Ensuring Support to Local Self-Governance in Ukraine” in cooperation with Program experts illustrated European countries approaches to establishing and developing European inter-municipal cooperation, which can be implemented in Ukraine.  

 

Inter-municipal financial projects aspects as well as alternatives for co-financing were considered during the round table.

 

Oksana Garnets, Senior Coordinator of Swiss-Ukrainian Project in Ukraine told about Project actions in the sphere of solid waste management (SWM). She reminded the participants that DESPRO supports inter-municipal projects on SWM in Bakhchysaraysky rayon, AR Crimea and Tulchynsky rayon, Vinnytsya Oblast. According to Oksana Garnets words, it is pretty difficult to overestimate the importance of the mentioned actions: “They include both the experience exchange and objectives implementation that go far behind the particular community capacities as well over tension of municipal units and maintaining the communities’ independence, including their resources”.  

 

Round table was supported by Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast State Administration and Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast Council, State Fund for Local Self-Government in Ukraine, Municipal Government and Sustainable Development Program/UNDP/Ukraine and Swiss-Ukrainian Project “Decentralization Support in Ukraine” (DESPRO).
