(Un)conference for School Teachers ‘EdCamp’, supported by DESPRO, was held in Kiev

February 11, mini-EdCamp (Un)conference in Kyiv gathered together about 200 progressive school teachers from 17 regions of Ukraine. Traditionally, one of the partners of the event was the Swiss-Ukrainian Decentralization Support Project in Ukraine – DESPRO. 

At the beginning of the event, the audience was welcomed by Liliya Hrynevych, Minister of Education, Oleksandr El’kin, the unchanging mastermind of EdCamp movement, Olena Fidanyan, Director of the Department of Education and Science, Youth and Sports at Kyiv City State Administration, Ihor Lysov, President of "Liko-holding", and Georgiy Khioni, head of the parent committee of Liko-school, which warmly hosted the members of the (Un)conference.

The eventful programme of the mini-EdCamp allowed teachers-innovators exchanging views on urgent issues of reforming of the Ukrainian school education, discussing the advantages and challenges of implementation of a competence-based approach in education, learning more about the importance of empathy in the educational environment, and even taking part in an independent study of values, in the format of VALUES HappyUkraine, by identifying team values, the list of which included creativity, passion and responsibility.

In the course of further work of the (Un)conference, the educators had an opportunity to demonstrate all their responsibility and concern for the changes taking place in the society, by visiting the section addressed to the impact of decentralization reform on the processes of providing educational services.

Together with the expert Aider Seyitosmanov, representatives of the teachers' community held an interactive discussion of the opportunities, which decentralization creates for education sector, and focused on dispelling typical myths that are often associated with implementation of the reform.
