Equal Access to Water for All: Will the Government Consider Ukrainians who Still Only Have Water Delivered? Analytical review by Viacheslav Sorokovsky

From delivered water to centralized water supply: for a share of rural residents in Ukraine, this transition has not yet been completed.

In 2015, Ukraine committed to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. Goal 6 seeks to achieve comprehensive and equal access to safe and affordable drinking water for all, by 2030.

Meanwhile, according to the National Report on Drinking Water Quality and Drinking Water Supply Status for 2018, centralized water supply currently covers more than 99% of cities, but only 30% of villages. Therefore, access to sustainable and safe water supply remains problematic for many Ukrainians.

In the analytical review "Equal Access to Water for All: Will the Government Consider Ukrainians who Still Only Have Water Delivered?" the DESPRO project expert Viacheslav Sorokovsky outlines the situation for some Ukrainians who do not have a centralized water supply and use delivered water. The expert also reviews the steps and strategies already implemented by the Government and ministries and asks an open question: should we expect changes in the implementation of this component of water policy?

The analytical review is available in Ukrainian in the DESPRO website library.
