Poltava Oblast would like to take part in implementation of III Phase of Swiss-Ukrainian project “Decentralization support in Ukraine” (DESPRO), financed by Swiss Government.

To-day, Head of Poltava Oblast Council met with Oksana Garnets, Senior Project Coordinator in Ukraine and Maryna Bryl, National Policy Development Expert. Meeting was initiated by OSA and was aimed at ensuring further steps to create in Oblast the environment, favorable for social and economic development as well as establishment and development of self-governing community organizations. Currently, Swiss-Ukrainian project DESPRO is completing the Second Project Phase in three regions of Ukraine.

“We are dealing with the problem of water supply in rayons. These are small projects on water supply of every separate village. They are based either on reconstruction of existing water sources or on construction of new networks, including all technical specifics”, - said Oksana Garnets. “Besides, we’ve launched 2 rayon projects on solid waste management”.

According to O. Garnets, at the moment, project representatives meet the authorities of different regions to establish contacts and find future partners.

“This very meeting speaks to that we have one more region, we can cooperate with”, - stressed Oksana Garnets.

DESPRO representatives promised to conduct information and training session for rayon and village councils’ heads.

“We have a lot of information and training materials, which could help to solve these or that rayon problems even without our support”, said Oksana Garnets.

DESPRO is implemented in three phases: I Phase – 2007-2009, II Phase – 2010-2012 and III Phase – 2013-2015. Currently, it operates in Vinnytsya and Sumy Oblasts and Autonomic Republic of Crimea. In each region three rayons were selected and in each rayon – several villages.
